Castles and enemy lords are yours for the taking, once you've assembled a few dozen strong troops.

You can challenge armies that are 5-10 times your size and easily come out on top. You could easily wipe out most of the enemy single handedly, even if you have weaker troops. Minimum battles are relatively easier, and you tend to have more freedom with how you want to play.

Playing with minimum battlesize vs playing with maximum battlesize is like playing with two completely different games.
